Hugh is clenching and unclenching his fists. “That’s utter rubbish. This guy is smart, though. We know he’s being threatening in the message, but he’s careful to make sure it’s not blatant enough to get him arrested.”

Florrie is on her feet and nervously busying herself at the stove again. “Deep-sea diving? I wonder why he’d write that. Does that mean something I’m not getting?”

I have heard every sort of sex talk on the planet referred to in every way imaginable in the letters I receive as The Ex-Whisperer. I know what Lillian’s husband means, and I know he doesn’t mean it in a “You’re hot. Let’s hook up and have some fun” kind of way.

His message is a violent one that isn’t lost on me. “Deep-sea diving means oral sex. He’s threatening to assault me.”

Hugh’s complexion turns a shade paler. “Or maybe to drown you.”
